Mary Haffner is a founding partner of Haffner Law Group.
Areas of Practice
Ms. Haffner began practicing law in 1989 at a large national law firm in Los Angeles, CA, handling labor and employment law, focusing primarily on employment discrimination and sexual harassment. Mary has built her practice on the strength of her advocacy and her ability to build trusting relationships in her community. Her vigorous representation of her clients and her litigation instincts and skills are a hallmark of her reputation as a lawyer and advocate. Since the advent of the #metoo movement, a growing segment of Ms. Haffner’s work is counseling women and others who have been the victims of workplace harassment and sexual assault. She is part of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund, representing women on matters of sexual harassment and gender equity.
Legal Writing Expertise
Ms. Haffner’s years of legal writing includes law and motion, appellate practice and extensive research and writing not only for courts, but for California state governmental entities. Mary is known for her effective and persuasive advocacy, concise communication skills, and her precise analysis of issues.
Civil Litigation Experience
Ms. Haffner was initially trained in multi-national Los Angeles law firms, before moving to Ventura. Mary, along with husband Matthew, started their own firm in 1997. Haffner Law Group, a top-tier, boutique litigation law firm, was re-named in 2013.
Community Involvement
Mary served her community as a Ventura Unified School District Trustee from 2005 to 2018. Since 2015, Mary has served on the Ventura County Behavioral Health Advisory Board, successfully advocating for high levels of services for the most seriously mentally ill. She is a past member of the Ventura Social Services Task Force, the Ventura County Regional Energy Alliance, and she is a past board member of the First 5, Ventura Neighborhoods for Learning.
Mary has performed Pro Bono work for environmental non-profits. She is a Recipient, Public Service Award from California State Senate, and a Recipient, Public Service Award from the Ventura County School Board Assoc. She presented White Paper finding, along with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., on behalf of a Ventura County Non-Profit entity.
