Find the right lawyer for your case

When someone is injured in an accident, or is wronged by the breach of an agreement, that person needs to find the right lawyer for his or her case. How does someone go about finding the right lawyer to handle their case?

A lot of lawyer retention comes from referrals– asking someone you know to refer a lawyer. Other lawyers are found through advertising or the internet.

Once you find a lawyer that you are going to consult with, ask that lawyer how much experience he or she has with your issues. How many similar cases have they handled? How far have they taken those cases, for example, did they take them to trial? If they settled, at what stage of the litigation did they settle? How recently has the lawyer handled cases like yours? Was it quickly, before the suit was filed? Did it take a long time and, if so, why?

Make sure the lawyer you are considering hiring has plenty of experience handling your case. Do not be afraid to ask a lot of questions about the lawyer’s experience, so that you are able to make a more informed decision about whether or not the lawyer is right for you and your case.
